James Van Evers, Photographer
James Van Evers is the official photographer for Tavis Smiley on PBS, responsible for photographing guests appearing and performing on the nightly talk show. The show's roster is comprised of internationally known authors, politicians, and celebrities. Past guests have included Larry King, Jay Leno, Prince, Will Smith, and President Barack Obama.
James Van Evers was selected to accompanying the production of Tavis Smiley to the 2008 Democratic and Republican National Conventions. His images were used by both Tavis Smiley and the PBS websites to document convention milestones and events.
James Van Evers distinguishes himself through his unique photographic vision and excels at capturing the singular moment of each interview and scene. His images tell a story and are cherished by the guests.
James Van Evers is also a gifted studio photographer who has produced editorial and print ads for a variety of national magazines.
Past production and editorial clients include BET, Sony Music, Warner Bros., Capitol Records, So So Def Records, Black Enterprise Magazine, Rap Pages Magazine, TV Guide, Simon & Schuster Publications, Kool Aid, Ford Motor Company and BARCO Uniforms.
James Van Evers is the rare photographer who has worked on both sides of the camera. Past work includes acting as stand in for Ving Rhames in such films as Mission Impossible III, Chuck and Larry, and The Goods. This experience has given Mr. Evers a unique perspective and honed his skills in capturing the moment during production.
James Van Evers is a member of the International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600.
James Van Evers graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Commercial Photography from the Art Center College of Design.
